Re: MRI of spine: lumbar vs lumbo-sacral???

If a Dr. orders an "MRI of lumbar spine" vs "MRI of lumbosacral spine" does this really make a difference in what is imaged on the scan?

My doc only ordered "lumbar", but I've seen some ordered as "lumbosacral". I have pelvic in addition to lower back pain--but my doc only mentioned the LBP for the test and I don't want them to miss any problems that could be at the sacral level or related to the pelvic pain.

I'll probably ask the tech to image down a bit further to inlude the sacrum, but if they won't can anyone say if this would make a significant difference? If so I'll have to have to ask my doc to reoder it as "lumbosacral"--but I hope this is unecessary.

Anyhow, if anyone knows about this I'd greatly appreciate some input. Thanks and take care.

Mike
