Medical insurance doesn't cover thyroid hormone treatment? I'm aghast.

If your T3 and T4 are low, you need treatment with hormones. I don't know how your own medical system works, but it may be that you need to find a doctor who will properly diagnose you. With the proper diagnosis, treatment should follow.
