Yeah, it's generally said it takes 10 years for the lungs to recover from regular smoking and 20 pack years (one pack per day for 20 years, or 7300 packs or 146,000 cigarretes) to develop COPD (chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema).

However, once COPD has developed it is irreversible.
