Question on cigarettes/cigars

Posted by AMD on November 11, 2004, at 13:23:20

Folks,

For about a year two years ago I smoked heavily while out drinking -- probably (worst case) a pack of strong cigarettes a night on drinking nights, those being four or five times a week. I tended to "puff" more than inhale.

I think that, because I associated smoking with drinking, when I quit drinking I also quit smoking, with no noticable cravings at all. I quit cold turkey without any problems.

I've been a /lot/ healthier in the past year or so -- mentally and physically. I've forgone cigarettes, alcohol and the occasional recreational drug in which I used to partake.

Last week I smoked a couple cigars -- and it got me thinking: would one or two cigars reverse any recovery from damage caused by the nicotine in the cigarettes I smoked two years ago? Does your brain "save" the information on that smoking, and thus would one smoke basically bring you right back to ground zero: restoring immediately any mental changes effected the first time around? Or am I basically fine as long as I don't make this a habit?

Regardless, the smoking seems to have accelerated my mind, something I don't need as a BPII. And it seems to be causing me a bit of stress, something else I don't need. So I think further cigars are out of the question for me. At this point I'm just wondering if now I'll have to wait another year before the aftereffects of smoking are out of my system.

Thanks,

a
