If you check around online, you'll find a fair number of links to studies about the effects of aspartame and depression. Many of the studies were stopped before completion, because the adverse effects of aspartame on depression were so clear and so negative. That gave me incentive to cut way down!
There is not a huge amount of caffeine in sodas, relative to coffee, but there is enough that you probably want either to taper it slowly -- say, two cans less per day for the first few days, then another two fewer cans per day -- or go cold turkey knowing that you'll be MISERABLE for a couple of days. The misery will pass, and my experience was that tapering and cold turkey were about equal in terms of misery, but the tapering was harder. This is only my experience, but I found it easier to cut way back in one swoop, since if I said to myself that I was going to taper, I wanted more and more. Saying, "I can have one/two per day" made it easier to stick to.
If you're here, you probably have some sort of mood disorder. Considering the adverse impact of aspartame on mood disorders, I'd say cutting way back, or cutting it out altogether, would be a Good Thing for you.
