I don't know. I had a pretty bad soda habit. I got a LOT of cavities, and I do blame all the soda for that. My other concern was that I was getting so many calories from soda, I didn't have enough appetite left for real food. A few people kept telling me sugar was like a drug, I was addicted, and I was having wild blood-sugar swings all the time, but honestly I didn't feel it. I never felt 'high' from sugar, and I never felt a crash afterward. I just got a pleasant little boost, and felt kind of dull and draggy if I didn't have it. Part of that was from caffeine anyway, since I was drinking mostly Coke. It's surely not as bad for your overall health as drinking and smoking.

That said, I've recently quit drinking it. I think one thing that helped was just making myself eat regular meals including breakfast. Part of my down and draggy feeling was just not getting regular fuel, so I'd grab a soda to perk up. It's too soon to tell whether I really feel better without the soda or not. I feel better mentally just from knowing I did something good for my health.
