Mm... well being Jewish I still don't understand the religious comment, it is out of any concept that I know of, but then I'm not terribly religious.

If one wants to think of mental illness as a "gift", go ahead... I could counter that with an equally offensive nature of a certain ex-candidate vice president who thought her mentally challenged baby would be a "gift".... but this isn't the place for religion anyhow.

I certainly don't perceive the pile of scheisse that I deal with daily a "gift"... that one can compare that there are others in life with other physical disabilities or things that affect some part of their faculties, that's a reverse thought and a better way of looking at things but however one wishes....

As for the Integrative medicine comment, well.. I'll get psychobabble-slapped about it, but again, that's for the "alternative" part of the board, I really really don't know why its necessary to look at Candida and suggest dangerous chelation for every new person...

But back to the real point of all of this... for the original poster... when you have said that you have tried "everything"... and I can understand this, I have tried a fairly large list... have you ever had a second psychiatric opinion... which can sometimes turn up other medications that haven't been thought of... not every "old" medication is necessarily a bad one.

I just wanted to be sure that things had been thorough.. and also that polypharmacy hadn't been exhausted (combining various medications for their beneficial aspects... with admittedly problems for greater side effects, but not everything is perfect).

MAOIs are not the end of the line nor the beginning of the line... they are appropriate for some people, they must definitely have benefits that outweigh their risks as life-threatening things can happen on a new regime of a diet that must be followed.

I put their risks above most atypical antipsychotics, yes, I have worries about tardive conditions... but the possibility of a fatality induced from a medicine must be thought against whether the depression itself could be fatal (suicide).
