Rather than have us tell them to you, here is a website. You said "pre-school" :) These are stories for children, but we can learn a lot from them too. Here you can pick any story you want. As you see, there are many. If this website opens correctly, there are Old Testament stories on the right, and the index will move to the left once you open one. They are laced with scripture references that you can go to and read to verify. btw, that is why we quote actual scripture ref., to verify our words, that we believe are truth. We sometimes take for granted that others understand them as we do, but that isn't the case, as you have pointed out. So, scripture stories are a really good first step.
Pay attention to how they make you feel, as in warm or cold, good or bad.
