Charity is a word that is misunderstood by many. Most think of is as helping the poor, donating to the food bank, etc, which is a part of it.
But the true definition of charity, is "the pure love of Christ" The scriptures clarify, if we do not have charity, nothing else matters. so, we then think, if I don't serve the poor with a good attitude, there's no hope for me. But that's not what it is saying. It means, "if we do not feel the love for us from God".
It is just as important to feel God's love for us as it is to show our love for others. Charity defines it better than love.
When I attended Bible study we used for our text "The Good News for Modern Man" instead of the Bible. I wondered why they removed the word "charity" and replaced it with the word, "love" in that text.
Here is the search on the word, "love" if anyone is interested:

As I said earlier, I just wish the official texts of all religions could be linked up with this cross-referencing system, so we could better understand the sililarities and differences, and our individual positioning in the universe of religion.
