I find it ironic, that I so identified with the extremes of various passions within this book so many years ago, and didn't even wonder if I was bipolar. But how could I? I thought it was all ME, some character flaw, that I could not function well in a world that I kept jostling against, not able to think, feel, or be the way the world expects people to.
Anyway, I LOVE this book. There is a sex scene, and I don't usually recommend books with those, but with that aside it is a wonderfully vivid portrayal of what Michealangelo might have been like, and felt, woven within the factual events, triumphs, and tragedies that are known about his life.
There seems to be some implication of homosexual tendencies, but then the author sort of defends the artist and shrugs off the very idea.
I don't really care where his love life may have actually taken him; the tapestry of creation, frustration, being at the whims of others, and so much else that is so vividly brought to life, just really made me feel like I was experiencing the joys and lows of the Renaissance period.
A book not without flaws, but still a good read. And, ironic that I so saw myself in the extremes of mood and passion that I read within the book, and yet still frustratedly wondering what the heck was wrong with me, and not connecting the two up . . . lol! I had no reason to.
