Nonfiction Must Read

Posted by daisym on May 30, 2005, at 13:40:19

I just finished "The Right to Write" and I loved it. I'm one of those people who journal and I think it is my major coping strategy for therapy. Babble has become an extension of my journal, better in that it talks back. :)

My favorite chapter in this book was the one about giving witness to things. She makes a case for having a place to fall apart especially within your writing. Writing captures so much of our inner selves that it is like learning about yourself from yourself.

I didn't particularly care about her advocating to write in the morning. I write in the middle of the night usually. And she talks about using a pencil and long hand, which I've never liked. But otherwise I think it is a very validating book for those of us who like words.
