"The Eyre Affair" sounds great! I just ordered it from Amazon based on your recommendation (how can a fellow Neal Stephenson fan be wrong?). I love alternate reality fiction. Have you ever read Philip K. Dick's "The Man in the High Castle"? It came out in 1962, won a ton of sci-fi awards. It's about an alternate reality where the Allies lost World War II. But as trite as that sounds, it's anything but in the hands of a writer like Philip Dick. Atticus
