What books have blown you away??

Posted by NikkiT2 on May 23, 2004, at 7:03:58

So, I'm building a new list of books to buy and read.. so thought I'd start a thread of peoples favourites!!

For me there are a few.. I could never narrow down to just one books.. so I will mention my favourites and a few I have really found fantastic recently!!

"Lord of the Rings" is there.. need I say any more??!

"His Dark Materials" is a trilogy (plus a novella called "Lyra's Oxford" and 4th novel is being written at the moment!) I try and get every one to read this series. Its aimed at the kind of Harry Potter generation, but is so much more mature in its writing, language and themes.. It gave me so much to ponder and ream about!!

If you like Sci Fi, then the Cyber Punk classic "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson is a must read.. This was really the first Sci Fi book I read and I have read it SO many times now!! *g* And I sooo want to learn to fight using Samuri swords because of this book *grins*

"The Red Tent" is a book I read fairly recently, and I think that every woman should read this (Especially Dinah!! Dinah.. go buy it!).. Its a biblican story, the story of Dinah, sister to Joseph (and his technicolour dream coat), and is one of the most empowering books I have read, and I wasn't expecting it to be!

I'll probably pop up with some more.. but please, inspiration people!!! tell me your "blew me away" books please!!

Nikki x
