Unbelievably Good Fantasy Novels

Posted by Destroyo on November 14, 2003, at 19:58:03

Your new friend Destroyo is being a bit obnoxious by posting pontifications in a serial manner without waiting for a reply; but bear with me. There were a couple of wonderful books I read two or three years ago, but I got them at the library, subsequently got to reading other things, and later remembered how great the books were, and many details of their content....but not the title or author! So I couldn't recommend them to reading pals. I googled snippets of title or half-remembered thematic concepts, but got nowhere. Just tonight, by some strange inspiration, I just happened to google the right words and snagged both of them; the way things like this happen, well, it can be bizarre. Anyway, I heartily recommend "Lives of The Monster Dogs" (Kirsten Bakis) and "The Eternal Footman" (James Morrow). I had described a couple other books at the social babble site as being "unforgettable", as though I could never possibly forget the author or title, but that was a short sighted thing to say. The fact is, I probably remembered these two titles and authors for well over a year after reading them, but later, I remembered how great the books were, but by that time I had experienced a mechanistic brain failure, and could no longer remember the author or title. The library in my current locale gives the borrower a receipt with the titles and authors listed thereupon; these days, I am carefully filng these receipts away.
