I took out a book from the library called "101 Damnations: The Humorists' Tour of Personal Hells", edited by Michael J. Rosen, and it is quite amusing. The author solicited 101 humorists to provide examples of personal "trials and 'trivialations'...from his or her own petty, persnickety perspective." The bits are all quite short, too (1-4 pages) which makes it easy to pick up and enjoy a bit of without much concentration.
Among the rejection slips he claims, in his introduction, to have sent to one entrant is this literary one which I think you guys will enjoy:
"Dear Bill, If we weren't still waiting for submissions from Frank, Malachy, and Fredo, your notion of hanging upside down, inches from a frosted Guinness, while the McCourt Brothers compared childhoods, would have been the wickedness we crave...."This book is hitting the right spots for me as I deal with some maddening situations at work that trigger my rage and challenge my ability to maintain self control! Nothing like a good cynical laugh!
