One of my faves for year is Paul Auster. "New York Trilogy", "Music of Chance", "Mr. Vertigo", "Moon Palace", "In the Country of Last Things", "Leviathan", "Invention of Solitude".
He is now well known for his NPR series on stories. People would send in stories, often of the uncanny nature of chance, etc., which is one of Auster's favorite themes. Now the stories are published in a collection.
