It was a big experiment, and the patients were chronically ill people that were pretty much *sentenced* to die in an institution. It is sad to see their spirits lift so much and then have the medication poop-out and cause such horrible side effects. Dr. Sachs' role is primarily one of a sympathetic scientist willing to experiment with patients that have no other hope-unfortunately real life is far from Hollywood.--Mitch
