Susan,

What I noticed about Sling Blade is that Karl seems to act from FREE WILL based on principles he has read in the Bible (he is torn between "Thou shall not kill" and Jesus' statement about not allowing children to be harmed-or woe unto him that allows it to happen-a sin of OMISSION. Owen seems to be a FREE THINKER observing FATE unfolding in front of him, which he has no control over.
