The Atlas of Depression by A. Solomon

Posted by Squiggles on June 2, 2002, at 7:44:16

Hi everyone,

I started reading this book a couple of
days ago (a friend bought it for me); He's
good - i have a question for anyone reading it;
Notice that his depression hit him hard as
a major breakdown just after his morphine/Xanax
cocktail for kidney stones.

It makes wonder - I wish I could find statistics
on this - if withdrawal from drugs is not a common
cause on major depression onset - before he had
dysthymia. It is close to my experience - I took
Valium and THEN crashed during my grad. studies.

I am curious as to the causes of depression onset,
aside the theoretical speculations of corpus
correlius localized anxiety disease, and the
cortisol levels, and the serotonin - not to say
that these things are NOT the causes, but how they
themselves change in depression - what sets them
off.

I was not sure if i should have posted this here
or the main board - sorry.
