Stephen Jay Gould died yesterday

I love his books. I think the first one I read was The Panda's Thumb and it's still one of my favorites.
If you haven't read any of his work I recommend it. He wrote essays on popular science, particularly evolution, that were understandable by non scientists but were never condescending.
