Ashwaganda is an amazing medicinal plant. It has so many different mechanisms in the human body.
It is an immune tonic and modulator, which is very important to mood chemical operation. Stress protective. Anxiollytic. nerve sedative, antipyretic, febrifuge, antibacterial, antimicrobial, astringent, anti tumor, hypnotic, adaptogen, and more. It is also very good for adrenal fatigue, which I think is almost universal in psychiatric patients.
I take Ashwangada in the morning and at night. I take it as part of a Lyme adaptogen protocol and because it is antibacterial especially against Chlamydia strains. It is also helpful for any kind of sexual dysfunction. It does not make me feel tired or sleepy but I am at fairly low doses.
I think it would be an excellent base for an insomnia cocktail but by itself not likely. It does have so many amazing properties for us, though, that it would be a good idea to get on it and stay on it for a long time whether it helps sleep or not.
