Supplementing for Depression/Anxiety

Posted by Lao Tzu on April 13, 2014, at 11:03:06

Over the years, I have learned several things that might be of use for depression and anxiety. First, certain B vitamins are essential. The ones that have helped my depression and anxiety the most are B1 (Thiamin), B2 (Riboflavin), and B6 (pyridoxine). Another that may be of use is Niacin or Niacinamide for some people. Second, certain amino acids may be lacking, including tryptophan, tyrosine, phenylalanine, taurine, and GABA. I have found that the supplement GABA is very useful for my anxiety as well as depression. Taurine can help too with anxiety in some people. Third, antioxidant vitamins are often necessary. Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and selenium are often helpful. Fourth, essential fatty acids can be of benefit. I have found that fish oil and borage oil (or evening primrose oil) may help in some people, especially schizophrenia and bipolar. Fifth, in severe mental illness often medications are necessary and very useful. I just wanted to share some of my observations that I have experienced over the years. Hope it helps some of you.
