Brother in law with depression

My brother-in-law was recently put on Pristiq for his depression. I advised him to keep taking his B vitamins with the medication. I told him if you take the B vitamins at the exact time that you take the Pristiq, you'll feel a lot better instead of taking them at different times. He says that method works for him. My sister also had mood problems, but she opted to follow Dr. Slagle's The Way Up From Down nutrient program. You can buy the book on Amazon, and there is also a website for the The Way Up. She says she is feeling better, but still has moodiness sometimes. I didn't want to recommend medication to her just yet. Sometimes it takes a few months to see real benefits from a nutrient program. She takes Tryptophan and 5htp at night, and she was using Tyrosine, but that didn't seem to work well. So now she's using Phenylalanine and says she feels better. Who knows how long that will work? I told her if the phenylalanine doesn't work in the long run, to try St. John's Wort or SAM-e and keep taking the B vitamins as well. Also, I said that she should try to reduce some of the stress in her life and get enough rest. Will see how it goes for her.
