There are certain vitamins I stress for my depression, mainly vitamins E and C, PUFAs (fish and borage oils), and zinc picolinate and vitamin B6 for pyroluria. These vitamins have helped me greatly in addition to the medication I take, which consists of a mood stabilizer, antidepressant, and antipsychotic. I try to take the B6 3X per day at 50mg per dose (Every 4 hours). You have to experiment a little to see how much you can tolerate. Those with pyroluria tend to need higher dosages. Zinc picolinate, I find, helps a lot with the depression if you are pyroluric. Start off at lower dosages and work your way up slowly until you reach a dosage that reduces your depressive symptoms. I like to take certain vitamins with my meds in the morning, namely E, B1, and B6. Then a little later, I take my fatty acids and zinc. In the late morning, I take my vitamin C with my second dose of B6. 4 hours later I take my third dose of B6 with 50mcg of selenium, which is also good for anxiety and depression. You have to determine which vitamins will help you based on three categories, Pyroluria, Undermethylation, and Overmethylation. The supplement regiment is different for each one. Sometimes, they overlap and some of the supplements are used for all three categories, but there are supplements specific to each category that you could try.
