I tried Ashwagandha after reading wonderful things about it and it seemed like a good fit for me. I tried it at night to help with sleep, though I woke up hot in the middle of the night. Most distressing, though, was that I felt a dip in mood the next afternoon. This is something that happens to me after taking holy basil for more than a week, or even after taking a lot of niacinamide. I want to experience the benefits of an adaptogen, but don't understand the depressive aspect (holy basil is especially frustrating because it works so well for me for a week but then the low-mood thing happens). I know that this doesn't really answer your question, as it is just another question, but does anyone have any ideas why Ashwagandha and holy basil might have this affect? Does it lower cortisol too well?
Thanks!
