A couple of other things. There definitely might be a biochemical basis to your symptoms, but another important point is that many people with mental problems struggle with self-identity. A good way to understand yourself is to make affirmations and write them down everyday. Some affirmations might be:
I am worthy of love and friendship.
My unique characteristics make me desirable.
I am a feeling, thinking human being who will struggle, but I will learn something wonderful from the struggle.
It is okay to have some anxiety. It just means I am human.Another technique I used was to simply allow uncomfortable feelings or thoughts move through and then out of your body. Don't strain or fight to control them because this makes them only control you even more. It may seem unnatural to do this, but just let them have free passage through you without any resistance by you, and you may find that in time they bother you less and less.
I've been where you are. For many years, I felt irritable, unfocused, anxious, depressed, low motivation, low energy. The first thing I tried was St. John's Wort. That only worked for a couple of months, then pooped out. I used kava kava for awhile, and that seemed to help with anxiety somewhat. I tried using magnesium glycinate (at bedtime) and the amino acid taurine, both which helped somewhat. Now, I am on medication, but I still use certain supplements which help take the edge off. They are:
vitamin B12--500-750mcg taken with B6 100mg, zinc 15mg, magnesium 200mg, and Niacin 250-500mg. Niacinamide is also good too, but I only take 1/4 of a 250mg tablet. But like I said, you may need medication for the worst symptoms. Good Luck.
