I've found that borage oil, fish oil, niacinamide (Not plain old niacin), and vitamin C are very useful in my bipolar disorder. They help me with mood, energy, and depression. I use Source Naturals borage oil (2 capsules per day). I've heard the NOW brand is also a good borage oil. In order to balance out my mood and energy, I also need to take fish oil with the borage oil. I use Eskimo-3 brand fish oil (made by Enzymatic Therapy in Sweden) because they come in smaller size capsules, which means I can take only the minimal amount of capsules that controls my mood symptoms. The large fish capsules made by other companies always seemed like too much fish oil for me. That's just me, though. Some people will need higher dosages of fish oil than me to help with mood stabilization, so the larger, higher dose fish capsules might be necessary for some people. With niacinamide, I only need about 31mg per day. That's a very small amount and may seem insignificant, but niacinamide seems to be very potent for me. I cut 250mg pills with a pill cutter you can get at any drug store. Some people may need a lot more niacinamide than what I take. The key is to experiment and see what dosage is helpful for you. The niacinamide also helps me with mood and depression and seems to mix well with the borage and fish oils too. With vitamin C, I sometimes take 250mg-500mg in the evening, which also seems to help with my depression. Also, a little vitamin B1 (thiamine) helps too. I just want to point out that I also take prescription medications, so if you don't take prescription medications you might need higher dosages of the natural supplements than what I typically take. Good luck and hope this is helpful to some of you suffering from bipolar or schizophrenia.
