> Do people get addicted to these over the counter meds called Swarm or "Yellow Swarm"? I know truckers that take this stuff to stay awake on the job. On of them claims to never take it anymore, but his weight is lowest I have ever seen. He is irritable. Is that a hang over from this stuff? These guys drink mountain dew, coffee, and take this all the same night to stay awake. One guy goes home and drinks beer to go to sleep.

i'm probably ALOT older than you and i have driven 100,000s of miles throughout the United States taking photographs. when i first started, 1980s, the truckers were very helpful and you could chat with them...to stay awake...and enjoy the company as you drove several hundred miles with them to your destination........then it started slowly changing.....cussing started first....then vulgar words.....then the lot lizards started using the CB systems to lure them into certain truckstops.......AND then i saw one coming out of a truckstop carrying a 24 pack of beer and i knew the end was near........the idea of an 18-wheeler, with two trailers, being guided down the road at 85 MPH with a driver who is consuming 24 beers scared the bejesus out of me.

the final blow was when i passed a trucker one night and as i passed the second one, the first one commented to him about my dog that was in the front seat. it wasn't a nice comment. it was extremely vulgar. as soon as i got home, i tore my CB out and never drove in the convoys after that. i miss it. but i value my life more than i value that CB.

this transpired over a 15 year period.

nothing would surprise me about what they take or drink now. i'm not issuing a blanket statement for all drivers, but for enough of them that it scares me too much to drive close to them.
