I remember that post. It was pretty cool.
I think as someone reads it they need to realize that one shoe size does not fit all. For example, choline makes a lot of people depressed. Vitamin B12 makes me very nervous and fearful. Inositol can have opposite effects of what is desired. Melatonin makes a lot of people depressed. Tryptophan or 5htp surely calms me down, but also makes me very blah, pleasureless, and after a few days even more depressed. Acetyl-l-carnitine is an excellent energy booster for me, but also increases my anxiety and nervousness. Magnesium is an antidepresant for some and a depression inducer for others.
It was mentioned in the post to find what dose works for you. That's the hard part.
The herbs look interesting. Scullcap for example is used to help detox off of opiates. Betal nut is sought after for its high, but has caused liver damage. Reishi is highly rated by various naturopaths on the internet. One of them said that St Johns Wort by itself is not good enough for bipolar depression or anxiety, but is excellent combined with Reishi mushroom, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, and scullcap. Reisha was one naturpaths highest rated herb of them all, especially for its calming action, which it is really not well known for. Another herb that is highly rated by naturopaths, but wasn't mentioned in the post, for depression, hormonal issues, and to make other herbs work better, is licorice in moderate doses. One naturopath feels it is better than st johns wort for depression but it hasn't gotten the publicity.
Excellent post. Lots of good ideas. Now the hard part...trial and error to see what shoe size fits. I think I'll copy and paste that post for future reference.
Thanks for reviving it!
