In reply to Anyone tried acetyl-l carnitine arginate ?, posted by Jimmyboy on December 14, 2006, at 17:17:38
I don't know about the arginate version. Regular acetyl-l-carnitine looks pretty good on paper though. It has all kinds of healthy effects on the brain and heart. It has been shown effective for geriatric depression. In one study at 500mg 3 times a day it was shown to be equal to amisulpride.
I personally could not handle more than 250mg. It definitely gave good physical energy and maybe a slight boost of mood, but also some uncomfortble restlessnes where I just could not relax or stand still. After 3 days I would start to feel more depressed. I've cycled it on and off 3 different times and each time the same pattern happens.
I can see though how ALCAR could be of benefit to a lot of people.
