In reply to Lithium CO3 vs Lithium orotate...any opinions???, posted by ronaldo on December 9, 2006, at 4:43:16
I only tried prescription lithium for 2 days at 100mg. It had immediate antidepressant effects for me, almost like amphetamines. It worsened my waking jitteriness and nervousness, it gave me profound hypotension and confusion, and I didn't stay with it. So I can't really comment much about it. It wasn't a fair trial.
I have been on lithium orotate for about 10 days. It had the same antidepressant effect the first day, which then went away after that. It's hard to tell I'm taking anything except that I have a bit more confusion than usual (could be post-ECT, prozac withdrawal, zyprexa withdrawl). Hard to tell. I skipped it at lunch one day and did seem more clear headed. Hard to tell. Other than that, no side effects. My mood is a little better overall, not great, but the daily/hourly cycles I go through are smoother and not so dramatic as they were.
I've heard some people say lithium orotate is useless. I've heard people say it works great. So it's hard to tell. I've heard several reports that when people take it and they don't think it is doing anything and they stop it they sink into a very deep depression and then go back on it, not realizing it was actually doing some good afterall. For me, a personal trial is the only way to tell.
