Tattoos

The thread above on mercury toxicity gave me a nasty thought about the *possibility* of toxic effects of chemicals from the ink leaching from old tattoos. Does anyone know if this happens and what the risks are, if any? Has anyone else ever wondered the same thing or had a tattoo removed?
