I'll give it a try. Could you tell me how long I should avoid sugar rich foods before bedtime and are there any foods you recommend for promoting sleep?

1 gram of calcium would have ME a tearful, crazy, wreck. I have to take much more magnesium than calcium, or no calcium at all. I take magnesium taurate, magnesium malate, magnesium glycinate or magnesium orotate, approximately 300-600 per day. Usually I take no calcium unless I am in a "no dairy" mode.
Sugar keeps me awake especially if I eat something in the evening, but it depends somewhat on quantity and type. In general, I sleep better if I avoid it altogether.
To promote sleep, I think potatoes are one of the best things. Being starchy -- and eaten alone without protein -- they promote tryptophan/serotonin release into the brain. Eaten with the skin is best, as then the carb is released more slowly. I've also always liked a banana and some milk and even read somewhere why that was recommended, but don't recall.
