The reason I ask is because in Europe they seem to think about tryptophan and 5-htp differently. Apparently there is a theoretical risk that ingesting too much serotonin precursor could dammage the heart. Supposedly they administer these with agents that prevent too much serotonin from accumulating in the periphery.
