I have seen raving reviews of this supplement in a book called Better Brain Book and also in Dr. Atkins Vita-Nutrient Solution. Both go into a fair amount of detail, and both books were in close agreement in their recommendations. Atkins says to go for the "acytyl L-Carnetine" version-not the other one, which is for bodybuilders. He also noted that it has something to do with maximizing the body's ability to utilize essential fatty acids, like fish and flax. Both books say it energizes the brain.
Now before you poo-poo Atkins, let me tell you that his recommendations about L-phenylalanine and tyrosine have been dead-on lifesavers for me when I was out of state and couldn't fill (by law) my normal klonopin and ritalin scripts.

I haven't done any extensive research on it, but it may be worth exploring (if you haven't already done so).
