To be pedantic, it doesn't convert to L-DOPA. It happens to contain that amino acid in relatively high concentrations. Just as 5-HTP, the intermediate in serotonin biosynthesis, happens to be found in a plant, Griffonia. Pure fluke, or whatever you want to call it. Natural source.
