I took this for years when I was on effexor in the hopes that it would protect my liver from damage (it was a one daily, time release pill), partly because I had had an abnormal liver panel once just when I was recovering from an eating disorder.
There have been many, many studies published on it indicating that it's a powerful, protective medicinal. I don't have quite the same reactions that you do, but I believe them. A good friend of mine even took an herbal blend supplement containing milk thistle which cleared up her acne. She'd been skeptical about herbal treatments prior to that, but has become a believer.
