In reply to Got Soy?, posted by Glydin on December 13, 2005, at 19:41:05
Hey there! Sorry its taken me soo long to respond.....well I lived (as a lodger) with a vegan lady who ate alot of soy (tofu, soya milk, tempeh soya sausages etc). She has been vegan all her life and she is now in her late 50s. And she has problems with her thyroid - she takes thyroxine (sp?) for it. I was quite surprised, because she has been leading this hyper-healthy life and so your info on a connection between thyroid and soy is interesting....can you tell me more? I haven't heard about it to be honest.
Its supposedly good for peri-menopausal women, but I'm a long way off and I'm afraid I don't have a clue. Isn't it to do with all the phyto-oestrogens? And that Japenese women who eat alot of soy don't suffer from the same problems?
Anyway I have personally given up the vegan life and believe everything has its place in moderation. Although I still don't eat red meat (never have - I was just brought up that way!) but the odd bit of chicken/fish didn't harm anyone.
Which doesn't really answer your questions........
Kind regards
Meri
