Using Meditation, breathing exercises, etc.

Posted by Bean on December 12, 2005, at 7:51:03

I've been seeing/reading a number of reports over, say, the last year which seem to indicate increasing research into the effects of various forms of meditation - research that supports the efficacy of these types of practices for emotional/psychological well-being. There are also a number of audio programs available teaching breathing-relaxation-meditation exercises which claim outright to be beneficial to people experiencing depression, anxiety and some chronic physical ailments.

I'm interested in hearing from people who have tried these. Now, I understand that these are disciplines, like exercise, that won't work unless practiced consistently and over an appreciable period of time. It's a big effort, and I would like to hear about the amount of commitment people found they were able to give to this practice. And, I would guess that one of the quandries with a discussion board like this, is that when people do start to feel better, they stop posting and even monitoring the board - so we don't always find out what helped them.

In any event, I'm interested in discussion and experiences on this topic. Thanks!
