I may be in the States, but I would just like to say I agree wholeheartedly. It was due to this wretched chemical that I spent nearly a year practically confined to my bed with the pains of fibromyalgia. Got all the way up through the list of narcotics from tramadol to fentanyl in trying to find *some* relief from the unrelenting aches and sharp pains.............. only to eventually discover, lucky for me, that it was my intake of aspartame that caused *all* the symptoms. I would generally drink a diet soda of some sort every day (just one), and upon stopping that, the symptoms ceased.
I *love* stevia in tea, green especially, and herbal infusions. But my lust for carbonated beverages has been quenched by the recent onslaught of sucralose-sweetened products to the market. I just make sure that acesulfame potassium (acesulfame-K) isn't listed as a cosweetener, as I respond similarly to it as I do to aspartame, though to a lesser degree. Saccharin doesn't cause me noticeable problems, but it just tastes nasty unless it's in iced tea with lots of lemon. :-)
