Anyway, just FYI, I found 5-HTP to be a VERY VERY good supplement... unfortunately, it tends to upset my stomach and kinda make me a little slow. Nontheless, it predictably and definitely resolves my issues of boredom / dysphoria / irritability. One time, I went 2 weeks straight without having even a hint of irritability, even at things that I might normally be annoyed at. I was taking 400 mg / day spread out through the day. After one full day of using 5-HTP through the day, I will almost always be in a nice mood. It had to be spread out or it wasn't effective. I wasn't taking any meds (actually, never have taken conventional meds). I was also taking decent amounts of B vitamins and minerals. Nothing substantial, though I am fairly certain 5-HTP is extremely effective without additional supplementation.
I rank kava and 5-HTP as my 2 favorite and most useful supps. VERY good stuff.
To answer your question, I believe B6 is a cofactor in serotonin metabolism. What you want to do is maximize the enzyme that converts 5-HTP to serotonin... don't know what that enzyme is called. Tryptophan Hydroxylase converts tryp to 5-HTP but thats not important here since you're already at the 5-HTP step...
