In reply to 5htp combined with Cymbalta, posted by sac on August 27, 2005, at 7:33:11
I doubt that adding extra serotonin (via 5-htp) would help apathy. Adding much 5-htp to SSRI's/SSNRI's can cause serotonin syndrome.
A better idea would be to add some Phenylalanine starting at 1g a day and titrating up until you respond. Take this with P5P. This boosts dopamine and norepinephrine increasing motivation and alertness.
Make sure you notify and ask your doctor about this, though..
> Does anyone know if it's safe to combine small amounts of 5htp (less than 50mgs) with an antidepressant such as Cymbalta to boost efficacy. I would be interested in adding 5htp to reduce apathy (I'm also on 450 mgs. Eskalith/day) Thanks for any info.
