You might try Chromium Picolinate or Chromium Polynicotinate for carb cravings. Last year the results of a fairly large (113 people) study showed that Chromium supplementation did reduce carb cravings in people with atypical depression. The article refers to other studies that show that chromium reduces insulin insensitivity.
There is some controversy over Chromium Picolinate because Picolinate might cause DNA damage. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the advantage of Chromium Picolinate is that it is better absorbed than Chromium Polynicotinate. There was a discussion about this last year that you might take a look at. The URL is http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/alter/20040418/msgs/355726.html
