Hello Kara,
I would say the tryptophan has no effect (positive or negative) on motivation, for me.
I still find it difficult to start on tasks I really hate, or that I know will start me worrying. And I have to do a lot of "talking to myself", to get moving on such things. I have a lot of "undone" things still :) . Sometimes they really haunt me.
Generally speaking, I have energy and focus for tasks and can accomplish stuff. One way that tryptohpan may be helping that, in retrospect, is that I am sleeping quite well now (I don't usually), so I am rested and have more mental and physical stamina. Sleep deprivation was a big part of my problems, I'm sure.I also take Acetyl L Carnitine every morning ( and have done for a long time). That, I believe helps with mental energy and drive. So perhaps ACL and tryptophan combined are helpful, but alone are not as useful.
Take care,
Jas
