That is the common name. It's a natural intermediate in RNA synthesis, ATP formation, but also has regulatory effects. It suppresses interleukins, and mops up peroxynitrite. It's an over the counter supplement.

It sounds like it almost can't have an adverse effect, unless you're prone to gout, or uric acid kidney stones.
