The figure of 1,000mg EPA is quite widely quoted as a standard amount of fish oil to take, following work by the late Dr David Horrobin,a well known expert on fatty acids. However this result was based on a small sample over a short period and needs further confirmation. Some people need higher doses because they are deficient. It is by the way possible to have your Essential Fatty Acids levels measured by a blood test. I live in Ireland and use the facilities of Biolab in London which costs £48(approx $90).Several labs in the U.S. do the test too. There is some more information on my website at www.omega3.20megsfree.com.
