In reply to High tin and iodine in hair test, posted by simus on September 8, 2004, at 23:37:22
> My mother (70) recently had a hair mineral analysis and she tested high for tin and iodine (and low for several things, including magnesium, manganese, selenium...). She was diagnosed as hyperthyroid because of a very low TSH. I am wondering about the correlation between the high iodine in the hair test and the low TSH.

Hi Simus,
Until Larry gets to this post, here's some helpful reading on tin: (Ignore the empty boxes on the top of the page and scroll down to the article)http://thyroid.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ithyroid.com%2F
I wonder if her diet may play a role in this?
Also, did she get free T4 and T3 levels tests? I think that when T4 converts to T3 it gives up an iodine molecure. So maybe that could play a role? I'm reaching here, I know. Also, Dr. Priscilla Slagle has a good site with some advice for treatment of hyperthyroid: (she sells supplements from her office so they're posted here as well)

Here's her advice page on supplements to take for getting toxic metals out of your body:
