Glutathione is one of your core antioxidant defenses. Glutathione levels depend on the total availability of an amino acid called cysteine. It's one of the few amino acids that contains a sulphur atom (like methionine).
The metabolism of the sulphur-amino acids are quite inter-related. You can go from methionine to SAMe to homocysteine to cysteine to glutathione, but only if you have the right vitamins available.
There's a nice diagram in this article that shows *part* of the sulphur-amino pathways:

To ensure adequate glutathione levels, you should get some whey protein powder (body-builders use it), some B-complex vitamin tablets (100 mg/mcg), extra B-6 (pyridoxine) 50 mg, selenium 200 mcg, vitamin C 1000 mg, and alphalipoic acid 200 mg. Use the whey powder as directed, and take the rest with meals.
I think it's interesting that nutritional supplements might be useful in reducing withdrawal symptoms. I would really love to hear people's experiences.
