Craig,
I've used acupuncture as an adjunct therapy in addition to my meds and therapy and pdoc. I mainly use it to help with the s/e of my meds. It also can be one of the few moments of peaceful relaxation I get once or twice a week.
For my situation and finances I was only able to go 2x/wk last year. I saw interns at a teaching clinic so my costs were delightfully low.
Now that I am seeing private practioner I am the lowest end of sliding scale provided since I do not have insurance.
When I had insurance my acu was covered 80%.
Let's see........I'd say you'll be paying anywhere from $45 at the lowest end for private LAc. (in CA that is licensed acupuncturist who has passed CA boards as well as national) up to $100 depending on the type of treatment and the length.
It has been helpful with motivation in the past but not doing much there now.
When I have gone for different ailments over the years the course of treatment varied. For a back injury I went for a short while more frequently. For my current depression, ptsd, and other dxs my pdoc sees the positive effect of acu on me and urges me to go just as much as as taking my meds or going to therapy.
Good luck. I personally couldn't imagine a world without acupuncture.
