A study in the BMC Psychiatry journal found that those with high levels of the vitamin responded better to treatment.They weren't treated with B12. It was a naturalistic prospective study. In other words, all they did was monitor depressives over a period of time, while they were (presumably) receiving other treatments for depression. Those subjects with higher B12 levels simply did better than those with low levels. Here's the abstract:
